KCPD crime scene detectives process a shake and bake meth scene at Scarrit and Hardesty Thursday, March 8. Michael Bushnell

Kansas City Police Department Crime Scene Detectives processed another shake and bake meth lab Thursday afternoon after a house at Scarritt and Hardesty was raided.

Four people were detained and taken to police headquarters for questioning. An undisclosed amount of methamphetamine, along with meth making ingredients and equipment, was also recovered at the scene.

Detectives stressed the high degree of danger associated with this type of methamphetamine manufacture, stating that explosions are very common, often resulting in serious injury or death.

“This stuff is extremely volatile and highly dangerous if it’s handled incorrectly,” said Detective Tim White. “Just picking up the container or opening the bottle could trigger a lethal chemical reaction and cause an explosion that could level a house.”

Police indicated that Thursday’s action was the result of an ongoing investigation.
