KANSAS CITY, Missouri – More than 200 law enforcement supporters saddled up for a ride through downtown Kansas City on Friday, August 5, joining the Jackson County Sheriff’s Mounted Posse and the KC Mounted Patrol for a round-trip ride from Hale Arena to the Liberty Memorial.

The ‘KC Cowboys for Cops’ event was organized for the public to show their appreciation for area law enforcement personnel of all shapes and sizes – including those that walk on four legs.

“These men and women put their lives on the line for us every day to ensure our safety,” said Jackson County Sheriff’s Mounted Police Captain Ed Adams in a press release ahead of the event. “So in the spirit of the old west we are mounting up and riding to show our support of law enforcement. Due to recent events in our country we want the Law Enforcement Officers in our area to know we support them.”

Riders braved a light drizzle to participate in the 4.6 mile round-trip ride, which began at 9:30 a.m. A full rolling police escort accompanied the mounted riders, who stopped at the Liberty Memorial for a presentation in memory of the community’s fallen officers. Once there, Kansas City Mounted Patrol Sgt. Joey Roberts thanked participants for the overwhelming show of appreciation.

“With times as they are, everything’s scary,” said Roberts to the crowd. “But it’s nice to know that we’ve got a lot of support out there. We appreciate it very much.”
