Northeast residents will have a chance to voice their input regarding the city’s arts scene during the Envision Arts and Culture KC public planning meeting tonight (Jan. 31) at the North-East Public Library, 6000 Wilson Rd.

The meeting will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. and is one of 25 meetings being held citywide as part of the Envision Arts and Culture KC initiative.

The initiative marks the first comprehensive review of the city’s arts-related policy since 1997.

Kansas City Mayor Sly James said it’s time to create a plan to take the arts to the next level, and to do that, the city needs the public’s input.

Mike Burke, chairman of Envision Arts and Culture KC, said the initiative aims to enhance Kansas City’s reputation as America’s creative crossroads. Feedback garnered from the meetings will be used to “create a path for the city to move forward” and make the arts more purposeful, rewarding and meaningful to the community.

“The arts can play a greater role in our city, developing our neighborhoods, creating jobs and enriching our children’s lives,” Burke said. “We need your ideas to help make this possible. Ultimately, this is about what the arts can do for our city, Kansas City, and what Kansas City can do for the arts.”
