Results from the Indian Mound Neighborhood Quality of Life Study will be presented tonight (Oct. 21) at the North-East Public Library, 6000 Wilson Rd., at 6:30 p.m.
Forty residents stepped forward to participate in key informant interviews and intensive focus groups for the study. Contributors from all walks of life voiced their opinions and ideas about the area’s strengths, issues and needs. Researchers with Mattie Rhodes and the UMKC Institute for Human Development (UMKC-IHD) also created a detailed Asset and Community Resources Map.
Additionally, researchers from the UMKC-HD used existing data to uncover information pertaining uniquely to Indian Mound. Area subset data was extracted from the larger 2011 Truman Plaza Community Survey, census and police data. By combining data sources, researchers produced a detailed description of today’s Indian Mound. Study findings indicate many residents remain loyal and dedicated to the success of the neighborhood despite challenges to the area’s stability.
To address problems affecting quality of life in an historic urban community, residents of Indian Mound are pursuing neighborhood renewal and improvement. Residents who want to be part of one of the renewal and improvement teams are asked to attend tonight’s meeting at the library.
