Westbound I-70 highway will be closed starting at Route 291/I-470 and eastbound I-70 will be closed at I-435 starting at 10 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 21. This closure is expected to end by Monday, Feb. 24, by approximately 5 a.m., but all construction is weather permitting.
The closure of I-70 is so that crews can demolish the old I-435 bridge that crosses over I-70.
On Friday night road crews will start reducing I-70 lanes, both east and westbound, starting at 8 p.m.
Travelers heading east and westbound on I-70 will be directed to a detour on southbound I-470 to go around the closure.
According to an email sent by the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT), “This is all part of a new interchange design being built at I-435 and I-70.
The new design will be a partial turbine configuration. Improvements include full bridge replacements, removal of left exits, improvements to loop ramp configuration, and congestion relief.”
The new interchange design project is scheduled to be completed by Dec. 2020. To learn more about this project visit modot.org/i-435-and-i-70-interchange.
