UPDATE: The victim in this case has been identified as 55 year old Elvis Danner. The investigation is ongoing.

Sunday morning just after midnight, Kansas City, MO Police Officers were dispatched to the area of 1st Street and Holmes Avenue on a reported shooting call. Upon arrival, officers conducted a canvas of a wooded area near a homeless encampment and located the body of an adult male suffering from unknown bodily trauma. KCFD EMS crews arrived on the scene and pronounced the victim deceased. The Medical Examiner on the scene verified that the victim had suffered apparent gunshot wounds.

The circumstances leading up to the homicide are unknown.  There is no one in custody at this time and we have no reason to believe there is an immediate risk to the public. Homicide Detectives and crime scene personnel processed the scene and will continue to search for witnesses in this case.

There is a reward of up to $25,000 for information provided to TIPS which leads to an arrest in the case. This is the city’s 177th homicide for the year.
