UPDATE:
Kansas City Police Department detectives have completed processing the crime scene. Gender of the human remains is unknown.

“It will still be some time before they can tell much about what they found, including the gender of the body,” Steven Young of KCPD said via email.

During the investigation, detectives discovered a long gun in the area, but do not know yet if there’s any connection to the remains.

Kansas City Police Department is continuing to investigate the scene on Cliff Drive where  human remains were discovered Wednesday, Jan. 5.

Hikers discovered what appeared to be adult human remains in the woods near Chestnut and Cliff Drive around 4:30 p.m. yesterday.

“It appears that the remains have been there for quite some time, and detectives are not drawing any conclusions other than they are human,” Steven Young of KCPD said via email.
