The National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory for the Kansas City area, including all of Jackson County, which will continue through 7 p.m. today.
With high temperatures and heat indices affecting the area, people are encouraged to drink plenty of water and avoid drinks with high sugar, caffeine and alcohol. It is also important that citizens postpone working or exercising outside during the heat of the day as well as being aware of the signs and symptoms of heat related illness.
“Heat related illness can strike quickly if not taken seriously,” said Jackson County Executive Mike Sanders. “Over the next couple of days, I encourage all of our citizens to take the proper precautions to protect themselves as well as checking on their friends and neighbors, particularly the elderly.”
Citizens who need to find a cooling center or other resources during this advisory are encouraged to call United Way 2-1-1 or visit the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services website at:
