Free developmental assessments for infants and toddlers will be available this week through the Rockhurst University Physical Therapy Department.

Assessments will be offered from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 23, and from 8 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 25, at the Rockhurst University Community Center, 5401 Troost Ave.

The purpose of the two-day program is to promote the health of young children and to identify children who may qualify for early intervention for motor delays.

Graduate Doctor of Physical Therapy students will conduct the free developmental assessments under the supervision of physical therapist and Associate Professor Catherine Thompson, PhD, MS, PT.

The assessment will include an interview with a family member to learn about the child’s health and birth information followed by the infant/toddler assessment. Assessments will also include measuring the child’s height and weight as well as measuring motor skills.
