This is what’s left of the old Smuggler’s Inn restaurant in Executive Park off Universal Avenue near Front Street and Interstate 435.
Thursday morning at approximately 3 a.m., Kansas City, Mo. firefighters responded to the scene of a structure fire. Upon arrival additional alarms were called in totaling three alarms.

The building is considered a total loss and will be demolished soon. The cause, according to a source at the scene, is considered to be homeless people who lit a fire inside.

In recent years it had been a dance bar but had lost it’s liquor permit about three years ago due to a number of Regulated Industries violations. A used car business also operated out of a side door of the structure. Both businesses ceased operation roughly two years ago, leaving the structure abandoned and open to the elements.
No injuries or deaths were reported.
