For a family-friendly event, check out the Family Walk and Bike Ride from 10 a.m. to noon this Saturday. The event will begin at the Spirit of Freedom Fountain, near the intersection of Cleveland Avenue and Emanuel Cleaver II Boulevard.

Residents who attend this free event can enjoy a 4.4-mile walk or bike ride down the new Brush Creek/Van Brunt Trail. Parking will be available at the Brush Creek Community Center and the Bruce R. Watkins Cultural Center.

The City of Kansas City organized the event with the Black Health Care Coalition, American Diabetes Association and the KC Metro Bicycle Club. Each group will provide information at the event about living a healthier and more active life.

Family Walk and Bike Ride is a prelude to Kansas City Bike Week, May 14-18, a regional effort involving local governments, area bicycle clubs and advocacy groups, planning agencies and bike-friendly businesses.
