The city’s homicide count continues to ratchet skyward with the latest homicide in a convenience store parking lot in the 4800 block of the Avenue.


This morning just after 3:45 am, Kansas City, MO Police Officers were dispatched to Truman Medical Center on a reported shooting call. Upon arrival, officers were told by hospital staff that a male shooting victim, later identified as twenty-two year old Mihail Martinez-Aguilar had been dropped off at the hospital with life threatening injuries in a personal vehicle.


Detectives immediately began to gather evidence to determine what led up to the shooting. A crime scene was located at a convenience store in the 4800 block of Independence Avenue. It was also determined that the victim and suspect knew one another and were involved in an argument prior to the shooting. Detectives were notified at approximately 6am this morning that the victim had died in surgery at the hospital.


Homicide detectives and crime scene personnel were notified and immediately responded. Collectively, they worked on gathering any evidence present and collecting witness statements. Detectives are actively working to develop a person of interest but do not have anyone in custody at this time.


This is the second homicide to take place at that location this year. On March 28th of this year, 23-year old Donald Young was shot and killed in the same parking lot.
