A bare bones table, above, is what this li'l pooch found at the American Royal Barbecue media room. Michael Bushnell

One would think that given the prestige surrounding the American Royal Barbecue contest, their media room would be a little more inviting to the press outlets that are expected to cover the event.

The hastily scrawled, hand-written copy paper sign on the front door should have said it all but we think the picture above speaks volumes.

Pre-packaged, store bought cookies, a pitcher of warm water, some animal cookies and some randomly scattered bags of snack chips on top of a folding table in a small, empty room was about the extent of the offerings.

No smiling BBQ BOTAR to answer questions, no tasty morsels to sample, nothing.

One would think that given the PR for this year’s BBQ contest was donated, they’d be able to furnish their media room with something a little more substantial than Costco cast asides. But then again, you get what you pay for.
