“WHAT CAN WE DO TODAY, SO THAT TOMORROW WE CAN DO WHAT WE CANNOT DO TODAY?”

KC Tenants is organizing tenants in the Northeast to form a neighborhood tenant union!

A tenant union is a group of tenants who have come together to use their collective power to achieve things they could not achieve as individuals. Tenant unions can win better living conditions, negotiate with landlords, educate the community about tenant rights and provide a space for communities to build with each other.

We’re stronger than we are as individuals. A well-organized tenant union can win demands that no individual tenant could win. Collective power is all we have to combat money and influence, and it’s our most important tool to fight for our neighborhoods.

Since 2019, KC Tenants has supported tenants to unionize and win at Crestwood Apartments, Green Village Townhomes, Gabriel Tower Apartments, PB Lofts, Heart Village Mobile Homes, and UMKC dorms. In 2021, KC Tenants organized the first neighborhood union, the Midtown Tenant Union. Additionally, KC Tenants has won a Tenants Bill of Rights and Tenants’ Right to Counsel, policies that support tenants’ right to organize.
