Who will be the next police chief of Kansas City?

After several delays in the selection process, Kansas Citians will have to ask that question a little longer.

Originally, the Kansas City Board of Police Commissioners planned to announce the new chief on Aug. 23.

One reason for the delay is Kansas City Mayor Sly James, said Danny Rotert.

Rotert, communications director for the mayor’s office, said James wanted more time to interview the five candidates and find out their plans for Kansas City.

James also wanted more time for the community to talk with the candidates, Rotert said.

Rushing the process really does no good, he said. Getting it right is really important.

Background checks are currently being conducted for each candidate and Rotert said the city will likely announce the new chief at the beginning of October.
