Organizers of the Kansas City Chihuahua Parade are once again hoping to break the Guinness World Record for the most dogs in costume.
Currently, St. Louis holds the record with 1,326 costumed dogs.
Although it’s called the Chihuahua Parade, dogs of all varieties are welcome to participate in the parade, which will begin on Sunday (Cinco de Mayo) at the Barney Allis Plaza at 12th and Central, Kansas City, Mo.
Cost to participate is $5 per dog and entry fees will be given to the Great Plains SPCA, which recently opened a second shelter in the metro area. Every year, Great Plains SPCA serves more than 30,000 needy pets.
Great SPCA will register the dogs in costume and a vet will verify that all the animals in costume are dogs. (Last year a pig participated). To count toward breaking the Guinness World Record, each dog must be registered.
Parade goers should arrive with their dogs by 11 a.m. and the parade begins at noon.
The Jazz Kitchen will set up a beer garden, along with food and other beverages for purchase. Valentine and the Knights will provide the entertainment and has done shows with Robert Cray, Betty White, Gretchen Wilson, Billy Ray Cyrus, Eddie Money, The Little River Band, among others.
