Charges have been filed against a 38-year old Kansas City man in connection with a cutting that occurred Thursday afternoon at a halfway-house facility in the 3700 block of Gardner Avenue in the East Bottoms. Trever A. Young of Kansas City faces Second Degree Murder and Armed Criminal Action charges in the stabbing death of Daniel Atkinson, a former resident of the facility.
According to court documents, KCPD Officers were called to the facility at around 1pm on Thursday afternoon on a reported cutting. Upon arrival, officers located the victim who was suffering a stab wound to the stomach. EMS was dispatched to the scene and transported the victim to an area hospital where he died from his injuries. Witnesses stated the two men were involved in an altercation outside the facility. Young fled the scene after being tazed by a staff person in the lobby. While conducting an area canvas, officers located Young near a boarded up house in the 800 block of North Montgall Avenue. He was attempting to burn a Missouri ID card at the time he was taken in to custody. During the course of the investigation it was learned that Young was a convicted felon on parole for a First Degree Staturory Rape charge. He also has a pending Aggravated Domestic Violence charge. He is currently in custody in the Jackson County Detention Center.
