Every year, more than 12.6 million people in America fall victim to identity fraud in some way shape or form. Central Bank of Kansas City wants to help you combat identity fraud and is hosting a one-of-a-kind ID Shield Event this Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Central Bank’s flagship Independence Boulevard location (2301 Independence Blvd., Kansas City, Mo.).
The bank is offering free identity protection services such as free document shredding, free credit reports and tips from on-site experts on protecting your identity. There’s even a free Trick-or-Treat for the kids as well as a prize wheel for all visitors.
According to bank spokesperson Sarah Cousineau, someone falls victim to identity theft every three seconds.
“Technology is a double edged sword,” Cousineau said, describing how modern identity thieves can strip a bank account bare in less than 60 seconds. “People need to be acutely aware of copycat websites and emails sent from phishing addresses, designed to harvest personal information from its recipients."
Cousineau advised against the sharing of any personal information whether by phone or email.
The event is the first of its kind sponsored by the bank. The public is invited to attend.
