KANSAS CITY, Missouri — Dee Evans, one of several candidates running for Third District At-Large City Council, announced she will be suspending her campaign.

In a press release, Evans said due to recent events in her life — notably the unexpected passing of her husband Dennis Evans III on March 1, 2015 — she is unable to put forth the time needed to run.

“It is important for the Third District to unify behind common goals in this City Council election,” Evans said in the release. “The goals of the Third District remain my priority, and this is the best move towards accomplishing those goals.”

Evans added she looks forward to helping the next councilperson work towards those goals. She included an endorsement of Quinton Lucas for the Third District At-Large race.

“My priorities are in line with those of Quinton Lucas and I look forward to helping him achieve the goal of making Kansas City a better place to live, work and raise a family,” Evans said.

Additionally, she would like to thank those individuals who supported her candidacy by volunteering. Also running for the Third District At-large seating being vacated by current council woman Melba Curls are Karmello Coleman, Stephan Gordon, Carol Gatlin and Forestine Beasley.
