Jefferson City, MO will be a busy place Tuesday, February 27th as candidate  filing for the August primary election commences promptly at 8am at the Missouri Secretary of State’s office building at 600 W. Main St. in Jeff City.

 There are a number of Missouri House of Representatives seats up for grabs, including that of Ingrid Burnett, (MO;D-19) who represents a large part of Historic Northeast, the Blue River valley and parts of the city’s West Side. Burnett has served for eight years and will term out at the end of this calendar year.

State Representative Michael Johnson, (D-23) is running for reelection. Johnson has served two terms in the Missouri House and will run for his third term in November. Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker has announced she will not seek reelection, leaving that seat open. Two candidates, Criminal Trial Attorney Stephanie Burton and Kansas City’s Director of Public Safety Melesa Johnson, both Democrats, have already announced they will seek that seat.
