Greater Kansas City LISC has issued a $244,030 pre-development loan to Swope Community builders to jump-start the development of Cameron Place, a 48-unit housing community for veterans with special needs.

The $8 million project will be located in Kansas City’s east side and will replace the abandoned apartment buildings at 3218 Brighton Ave.

“Cameron Place will be an asset to the area by reducing crime and blight as well as bringing housing to the neighborhoods for veterans with special needs,” said Bill Jones, president and chief executive officer of Swope Community Builders. “We appreciate the support from LISC in helping to bring this project to fruition.”

A number of veterans returning home to Kansas City from Iraq or Afghanistan are experiencing symptoms of depression, post-traumatic stress disorder and traumatic brain injury. Cameron Place will help address the shortage of housing for these veterans who need to be near quality mental health support services.Cameron Place is slated to be completed in 2013.
