Kansas City, Missouri — Jean Peters Baker is staying in Jackson County.
According to a press release from the current Jackson County Prosecutor, Baker has decided to run in 2016 for the office she currently holds. Over the last several months, Baker said she’s heard from many Missourians urging her to run for Missouri Attorney General.
“It is an honor that people from all across the state consider me a strong candidate for our state’s highest law enforcement office,” Baker said.
Since becoming the Jackson County Prosecutor three years ago, she said her office has prosecuted thousands of offenders, strengthened community relationships and sought justice for victims. In addition, in 2014 we saw a significant reduction in homicides in Kansas City.
“There has been much progress and I am extremely proud of the success my office has achieved. However, there is much more work to do,” Baker said. “I am hopeful the voters will allow me to continue to serve in this role and I look forward to working with the next Attorney General to advance public safety in Jackson County and throughout the great state of Missouri.”
