Scarritt Renaissance Fourth of July
Join the Scarritt Renaissance neighborhood for a Fourth of July celebration. Join your neighbors at 4 p.m. July 4 at the Anderson Avenue Bridge, west side of Concourse Park, for a free hotdog and hamburger cookout. Bring your favorite potluck item to share and your own beverage. Bring a paint brush if you’d like to help paint the benches on the bridge. Also, if you have outdoor games like volleyball, croquet, etc., feel free to bring them along. Also, don’t forget a chair or blanket. All are welcome to participate, even if you don’t live in the Scarritt neighborhood.

La Chalupa Farmer’s Market
Mattie Rhodes Community Center, 148 N. Topping, will host La Chalupa Farmer’s Market every Thursday from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. in the Mattie Rhodes parking lot. EBT/SNAP cards will get extra dollars for local produce.
Hard Hat Happy Hour
Explore Kansas City Museum’s more than 100-year-old mansion home, Corinthian Hall, with a glass of wine during the Kansas City Museum’s Hard Hat Happy Hour, 3218 Gladstone Blvd. Examine 100-year-old craftsmanship and hear first-hand about plans for the grand mansion’s future from Museum Director Christopher Leitch and museum staff. Cost is $5. Tour members must be 21 to attend and wear closed-toe shoes.

Jay and Leslie Cady of Laughing Matters are the lucky stars of this fun program of juggling tricks, wacky humor and new twists on classic bedtime stories. Follow your lucky stars to the North-East Public Library for this dream come true for the whole family! It all begins at 10:30 a.m.

Annual Water Garden Tour
Check out the Garden Society of Greater Kansas City’s Annual Water Garden Tour from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., rain or shine, on July 7-8. Tickets are $10. Visit www.kcwatergardens.com for ticket locations. Two of the featured gardens are located in Northeast and include: St. John Gardens Community Garden, 3922 St. John Ave., and Curtis Padilla’s garden at 3923 Sunrise Drive. Currently, 10 community gardeners have active garden beds at St. John Gardens.
KC Baseball History Trolley Tours
As baseball’s mid-summer game comes to Kansas City, explore the evolution of baseball in KC with former National Baseball Hall of Fame and Library Senior Research Associate Lloyd Johnson. Tour-goers will pass the site of the Muehlebach and later, Municipal Stadium and KC’s many other historic baseball sites. They will also hear about famous players who lived or played in Kansas City. Tours will be held at 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. Cost is $30 and pre-registration is required. Visit www.kansascitymuseum.org/trolleytourBASEBALL.html to purchase tickets. Meet at Union Station.

Wimpy Club
Attention all fans of The Diary of a Wimpy Kid! North-East Public Library will host a book club at the library at 3 p.m. on Mondays in July where attendees can chat about the book, play games and create their own Wimpy Journals. Children ages 8 to 12 are welcome to attend and will receive a free copy of the book.

KC Museum Summer Concert Series
Check out Kansas City Museum’s Summer Concert Series on July 13. Featured band is Run Little Rabbit which plays old-time string music. It all starts at 7 p.m. at the museum, 3218 Gladstone Blvd. Cost is free.
Museum Kids Summer Drop-ins
The Kansas City Museum will host its summer drop-in program on Wednesdays and Fridays in July and August from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Cost is free. Drop in with your child for games, music, stories and arts & crafts. On July 11, Radio Disney will also join in on the fun from 11 a.m. to noon.
In the Pink of the Evening Summer Concert Series
Northeast Arts KC next installment of its summer concert series is on July 21 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Colonnade at Concourse Park. The concert will also include a round-up of area food truck vendors along Gladstone Boulevard. Featured band will be Beau Bledsoe and Zhanna, classic guitar and flamenco dancing.
