Newhouse Shelter Showdown
Support Newhouse, a women’s shelter, through the Newhouse Shelter Showdown event from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Westport Flea Market, 817 Westport Rd., Kansas City, Mo. Cost is $20 in advance and $25 at the door and includes all-you-can-eat burgers, beer and a side. Trivia and beer pong will be played. Visit www.newhouseshelter.org.

Free Concert at Budd Park
Community United and Hope Community Church is hosting a free concert at Budd Park, St. John and Denver, from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. All are invited to attend the free concert, which will also include free hot dogs and hamburgers. Bring your own chairs and blankets.
Mattie Rhodes Día de la Familia
Mattie Rhodes Center will host its Día de la Familia festival from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 148 N. Topping Ave., Kansas City, Mo. Activities will include health screenings, music, cooking and Zumba demonstrations, kids’ activities and more. Mattie Rhodes will also host a youth summit for 6th-12th graders from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. inside the center’s building which will include special speakers, a dance, a free lunch and raffle giveaways.
Crime Stoppers Shred-it Fundraiser
Greater Kansas City Crime Stoppers Tips Hotline, KCPD and UMKC will host a community shred event from 8 a.m. to noon in the west parking lot of the UMKC campus, 5115 Oak St., Kansas City, Mo. Protect yourself from identify theft and bring your confidential documents to be shredded.

Literacy Kansas City Volunteer Tutor Training
Literacy Kansas City will host a series of training sessions for volunteers to teach reading, writing and spelling to adults seeking to improve their basic skills. Training sessions will be held June 11, 12, 18 and 19 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the American Red Cross Building, 211 W. Armour Blvd., Kansas City, Mo.
