Flu shots at KCMO Health Department

The Kansas City, Missouri Health Department (2400 Troost) is currently offering flu shots during regular clinic hours, from 8 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays and from 8 a.m. to noon on Thursdays. The Health Department will bill Medicare Part B or Medicaid on behalf of those who provide proof of coverage. The Department is also accepting private insurance. Children who qualify under the Federal Vaccine for Children program will receive vaccine provided through that program. All others will be charged $30 per shot or $55 for the high-dose formulation (available to seniors 65 years and older).  Non-Kansas City residents will be charged an additional $10 administration fee. Cash and credit cards only will be accepted for payment.

 

Substance abuse recovery 

A substance abuse recovery meeting will take place at 7 p.m. every Wednesday at New Beginning Apostolic Church. Contact Frederick Wilson (816-786-1981) for more information.

 

Kansas City Museum at Garment Museum

The Kansas City Museum’s new space at the Historic Garment Museum (800 Broadway) is now open. The KCMO Historic Garment District provides 3,300 square feet for exhibitions, programs, and events, and it is adjacent to Garment District Place Park. The Kansas City Museum at the Historic Garment District (KCM@HGD) will offer special exhibitions that display historical items from the Kansas City Museum’s collections and also present contemporary works by local fashion designers, entrepreneurs, and artists. General Admission to the Historic Garment District Museum is free. Special Exhibition Admission to the Kansas City Museum at the Historic Garment District (KCM@HGD) is $5 per person and free for children 12 and under.

Criminal Records at the North-East branch

Stop by the North-East branch of the public library on Thursday, September 2, from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. to learn about how to go about seeking a job with a criminal record. Do you know what is on your criminal record?  Do you know how to correct mistakes that are on it?  How do you get something expunged?  Join Jacob Bosch, Re-Entry Employment Specialist, to get your criminal record and learn what your rights are.  This program is geared specifically towards job seekers. The group will meet in the H&R Block Business & Career Center on the 3rd floor of the Central Library.  There will be computers available to request your criminal history reports.

 

 Mattie Rhodes Center health clinic

The Northeast location of the Mattie Rhodes Center (148 N. Topping) opens its evening health clinic, named La Clinica, every Thursday evening from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. No appointments needed, but care is provided on a first-come, first-served basis.

 

Northeast Farmer’s Market

The next Northeast Farmer’s Market will be on Thursday, September 21, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at 3001 Independence Avenue. Items to be included at the market are vegetables, fruit, eggs, meat, bread, and more. Live music and a dedicated kids activity tent are also featured. The market also participates in the Double Up Food Bucks KC program. Blue Valley to open CAN Center on September 21

The grand opening of the Blue Valley neighborhood’s Community Action Network (CAN) Resource Center will be held on Thursday, September 21 at 6:00 p.m. at Guadalupe Center (1512 Van Brunt). The CAN Center is a community partnership between the City of Kansas City, Missouri, the Kansas City, Missouri Police Department, Guadalupe Centers, Inc., and a host of other agencies. Chair Fitness

The North-East Public Library Branch (6000 Wilson Rd.) will host a chair fitness class on Friday, September 22, beginning at 9:30 a.m. No matter what your limitations, you can still reap the physical, mental and emotional benefits of exercise. This class is designed to offer a total body workout. Cardio, strength and flexibility exercises are all performed from a seated position.

Steven King film series – The Shining

The Central Branch of the Kansas City Public Library will host a screening of the The Shining on Saturday, September 23, beginning at 1:30 p.m. The screening is a continuation of the ‘King Me’ series, which shows film adaptations of King’s books. This title is Rated R and is recommended for adult audiences only.

The North-East Branch of the Kansas City Public Library invites the public to the library on Monday, September 25 from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. for an opportunity to brush up on the English language. Learn basic vocabulary, grammar, and usage. Gain confidence in using English in your daily life.

Graphic Novel Book Club

Head out to the Central Branch of the Kansas City Public Library for story time on Tuesday, September 26, from 7 p.m. until 8 p.m. Join the library each Tuesday on the Children’s floor for stories, crafts and a lot of imagination. Graphic novel fans (ages 7-15) enjoy meeting up with each other to talk about books, as well as to get first hand illustrative instruction on how to create, design and illustrate your own comics. NEHS Homecoming Celebration 

Northeast High School will celebrate it’s homecoming with a bang on Saturday, September 30, beginning with a parade at 9:00 a.m. NEHS will then dedicate its renovated field at 10:30 a.m., with a Northeast Vikings varsity football game beginning shortly thereafter, at 1 p.m.

 

NEHS Class of 1987 reunion

The Northeast High School Class of 1987 will host its 30th class reunion on September 30th, 2017, from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. at Eden Alley (707 W. 47th Street) in the Country Club Plaza. The cost to attend is $20 at the door.

 

Knights of Columbus Dinner/Bingo

The next bingo/dinner night hosted by the Knights of Columbus Cardinal Glennon Council #4613 will be held at St. Anthony’s ~ St. Joseph Hall (3208 Lexington 64124) on Friday, October 6. A dinner of an Italian steak sandwich and chips will be served for $6 from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m.. and bingo will be held from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m. Coffee is included; other drinks and desserts are available for $1.
