Kansas City Museum – history of the R.A. Long family
Every Wednesday-Saturday at 10:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m., the Kansas City Museum (3218 Gladstone) offers free docent-guided tours of the first floor of Corinthian Hall and the first floor of the Carriage House. These tours begin in the Carriage House. Visitors learn about the history and legacy of the Long family and of the Kansas City Museum.

Coffee and Conversation at Central Library
Head to the Central Branch of the Kansas City Public Library on Wednesday, November 16, from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. for some coffee and conversation. Library customers experiencing homelessness and customers interested in social issues are invited to join library staff for some coffee, pastries and conversation on topics related to social inclusion and focuses on issues we all have in common. This program is open to any and all library customers regardless of housing status.

 
Thursday, November 17
Mattie Rhodes Center health clinic
The Northeast location of the Mattie Rhodes Center (148 N. Topping) opens its evening health clinic, named La Clinica, every Thursday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. No appointments needed, but care is provided on a first-come, first-served basis.

Blue Valley Kiwanis Club Chili Day dinner
Everyone is invited participate in the Blue Valley Kiwanis Club’s 2016 Chili Day fundraiser on Thursday, November 17 at the Salvation Army building at 6618 Truman Road. Members of the Kiwanis Club will serve chili from 11:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. Tickets cost $7, and include all you can eat chili, dessert & beverages! Carry-out is also available (doesn’t include drink).

Blue Valley Neighborhood Association Meeting
The Blue Valley neighborhood association will meet on Thursday, November 17, beginning at 6:00 p.m. at the Guadalupe Center on Truman Road. Look for the sign.

Money Matters event at North-East Library
Come out to the North-East Public Library on Thursday, November 17 beginning at 12:30 p.m. for a 60-minute Money Matters workshop that will teach attendees: how lenders view their credit, how to select a credit card, how to understand credit scoring models, how to review a credit report, and how to make a positive impact on your credit. All attendees will receive a $30 Library fine reduction coupon which can be applied toward fines, or lost/damaged fees.

Northeast Fit-Mix
Stop by the North-East Library (6000 Wilson Rd.) on Friday, November 18, beginning at 9:30 a.m. for a fitness class. The class alternates between chair fitness techniques and the new “Soul-Flo” yoga activities. No matter what your limitations, you can still reap the physical, mental and emotional benefits of exercise in these courses at the North-East Public Library.

Sign up for a free e-mail account and follow along with this tutorial that teaches the ins and outs of sending and receiving email, as well as how to organize your messages. Class begins at 10:30 a.m. at the North-East Public Library, 6000 Wilson Rd.

KC Museum’s KCFD history exhibit still open
The Kansas City Museum (3218 Gladstone) is now presenting In the Line of Duty: A History of the Kansas City, MO Fire Department from 1868-1968, an exhibition that explores stories of courage and dedication that comprise the heritage and development of the Kansas City, Missouri Fire Department (KCFD). From its humble beginnings in the late 1800s to international fame, and from technological triumphs to tragic losses, the KCFD has over 100 years of proud service to its community.

 
Sunday, November 20
1916 Irish Rebellion Documentary at WWI Museum
On Sunday, November 20, the National World War I Museum will host documentary screeing of  “1916: The Irish Rebellion.” The documentary will examine the context in which World War I’s 1916 Rising took place and the logic behind the actions of the rebels who were responsible for what contemporaries called “The Crazy Rebellion.”

Kansas City: a Food Biography – at Central Library
Join the Central Library on Sunday, November 20 beginning at 2:00 p.m. for a presentation about Kansas City food. From its earliest days as a provisioner for pioneers and traders headed west, KC evolved into a major marketer of the nation’s meat and wheat. Thousands also have made a living providing meals and hospitality to travelers passing through. In a discussion of her fascinating book ‘Kansas City: A Food Biography’, culinary historian and Johnson County Community College English professor Andrea Broomfield explores how a frontier town grew into a major metropolis famous for great cuisine, iconic dishes, and crossroads hospitality and how those features continue to define the city.

Seasonal crafts for adults at North-East Library
Come out to the North-East Public Library on Sunday, November 20 from 1:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. to join in with a group of adults for crafts, conversation and fun!

 
Monday, November 21
Indian Mound Neighborhood Association Meeting
Indian Mound Neighborhood Association will host its next monthly meeting on Monday, November 21 at the North-East Public Library at 6:30 p.m.  Immediately following the meeting, community members will have the opportunity to speak with representatives of Healing House, which is currently working on expansion plans in the neighborhood.

 
Tuesday, November 22
Story time at Central Library
Join the Kansas City Public Library’s Central Branch on Tuesday, November 22, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. for stories, songs, and plenty of time for play. Library guests talk, sing, read, write and play every day, but Tuesdays are special. Parking is Free!

Parks Board Meeting
The next meeting of the Parks Board will on Tuesday, November 22, beginning at 2:00 p.m. at the KC Parks Administration building (4600 East 63rd Street Trafficway). The Board of Parks and Recreation holds public meetings twice a month on Tuesday at the Parks and Recreation Department headquarters. All meetings start at 2 p.m. and are open to the public.

Pilgrim Run 5K and Walk – Thursday, November 24
Get your Thanksgiving started early with a 5K on Thanksgiving morning, beginning at 9:00 a.m. at Pilgrim Chapel (38th and Gillham). Enjoy a fun 5K walk or run  through historic Hyde Park in midtown Kansas City.  Proceeds from this event benefit the Children’s Programs of the Pilgrim Center.
