Hard hat tours
Take a hard hat tour of Corinthian Hall, the more than 100-year-old home of lumber baron Robert A. Long and his family. Kansas City Museum, 3218 Gladstone Blvd., Kansas City, Mo., will host the free tours on Wednesdays at 10:30 a.m. and 2 p.m.

Mattie Rhodes’ La Chalupa Farmers Market will be held from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. and features locally grown produce. The farmers market will be held every Thursday at the Mattie Rhodes Center, 148 N. Topping Ave., Kansas City, Mo. SNAP/EBT cards will be accepted.

Hard hat tours
Take an extended hard hat tour of Corinthian Hall, the more than 100-year-old home of lumber baron Robert A. Long and his family, with Kansas City Museum Director Christopher Leitch. Visitors will see Corinthian Hall in mid-renovation, the bare interior of the building exposed for the first time in decades. The tour will be held at 12:30 p.m. and is free and open for those 12 years old and up.

Indian Mound Neighborhood meeting
The Indian Mound Neighborhood Association will hold its monthly meeting at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 19, at North-East Public Library, 6000 Wilson Rd.
Free Self Defense Class
Pendleton Heights Neighborhood Association will be hosting a free self defense PowerPoint presentation led by Kansas City Police Officer James Schriever on Tuesday, Sept. 20. Following the PowerPoint, Shriever will give a demonstration. The goal of the class is to promote safety in the neighborhood and teach attendees what to do during an attack and how to think quickly and clearly. All are invited to attend the free class, which will be held from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Scuola Vita Nuova gymnasium, 544 Wabash Ave. To RSVP, email christymaddux@yahoo.com.
EMPOWER kidney disease classes

Huge Garage Sale

Shelter Showdown Bowling Night
Bowl for a cause from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 24 at Ward Parkway Lanes, 89th and Ward Parkway, Kansas City, Mo. This is the third and final event in the 2011 Shelter Showdown series for Newhouse women’s shelter. Can KU or K-State overtake MU in this fundraising competition? Cost is $30 for adults, $20 for kids and includes two hours of bowling, shoe rental, snacks, a beer or soft drink and a raffle ticket.
