Northeast Farmers’ Market

The Northeast Farmers’ Market (3001 Independence Ave., KCMO 64124) will be open on Thursday, July 7, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. There will be a wide assortment of vegetables, fruit, eggs, meat, bread, and coffee.

Diabetes Self-Management Program

Come to the North-East Public Library at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 7 for a diabetes self-management program. The program is open to all adults and free of charge. This workshop would benefit you if you have been diagnosed with diabetes, are living with someone with diabetes, or taking care of someone with diabetes.

Kansas City Zoomobile at the North-East public library

Stop by the North-East Public Library on Friday, July 8 beginning at 10:30 a.m. for a special presentation from the Kansas City Zoomobile. The Zoomobile brings the world of the wild to you. Connect with nature and wildlife through a fascinating journey featuring awesome artifacts, fun science, captivating stories, and of course, live animals.

Teddy Bear Picnic at Kansas City Museum

The Kansas City Museum (3218 Gladstone) will celebrate National Teddy Bear Picnic Day on Friday, July 8, with a party on its front lawn from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Pack a picnic, bring a blanket, and grab your favorite teddy bear(s) for an afternoon of fun at the museum with music, games, crafts and more. No pets are allowed. Featuring music by Janie Next Door. There is no cost to attend but registration is limited. Kansas City Museum summer concert – The Buhs

The Kansas City Musuem (3218 Gladstone) will host a free summer concert featuring The Buhs on Friday, July 8, from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. The Buhs are an eclectic group of singers, emcees and musicians who perform their own brand of soul, pop and hip-hop. All summer concerts are held on the lawn of the museum, and attendees are welcome to bring a lawn chair and blanket to picnic during the shows. Dogs are allowed in the premises in designated areas.

World Refugee Day

The Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences (KCUMB) will host a World Refugee Day celebration on Saturday, July 9, from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at 1750 Independence Avenue. The event will begin with a panel discussion with local refugees, resettlement agencies, and others. The panel discussion will be followed by music, traditional dance, and food. This is part of an annual event by the United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR).

First annual Viking Poker Run

Sponsored by the NE Vikings N Club, the 1st Annual Vikings Poker Run will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 9. The event, which begins with an group motorcycle ride and ends with a community celebration, aims to fund an athletic scholarship in memory of fallen KCFD firefighters Larry Leggio and John Mesh, as well as other athletic needs at Northeast HS. Registration for the ride begins at 8:30 a.m. at Northeast Middle School (4904 Independence Ave.), and kickstands go up at 10:00 a.m. The party begins at the old Fountain Theater (9th and Tracy) at 12:30 p.m. Tickets for the event cost $25 for a single rider, $35 for a rider with passenger, and $15 for those who only want to attend the party.

Computer Class – Microsoft

Join North-East Public Library for a class on the fundamentals of Microsoft Word, which will focus on templates as well as the various menu options. Class begins at 10:30 a.m. at the library, 6000 Wilson Rd.

Spaghetti Dinner – Independence Boulevard Christian

A benefit spaghetti dinner will be held Sunday, July 10th, 2016 from 12:30 to 2:30. The dinner is sponsored by the Deacons of Independence Boulevard Christian Church, 606 Gladstone Blvd. The cost for Individuals is $5, and $10 for families. Knights of Columbus Council breakfast

The Knights of Columbus Council #4613 will host their next breakfast on Sunday, July 10, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Our Lady of Peace Church (1009 Bennington, KCMO). The cost is $5.50 for adults, and $3.00 for children ages 12 and under. Come on down for a traditional Knights breakfast and more.

Junior Optimist informational meeting

The Junior Optimists are holding an informational meeting on Monday, July 11, beginning at 6:00 p.m. at the North-East Public Library (6000 Wilson Rd.). The Optimist help with community projects, learn new things, and have social activities with other kids. The group is free to join, and is for ages 6 to 17.
