Kansas City Museum

Thacher School demolition contract consideration

Thacher School, 5008 Independence Ave., is located on an eight-acre site with Northeast Middle, which was reopened in Fall 2014. Thacher has sustained major fire damage and has been a frequent target of vandalism, creating safety concerns for students at Northeast Middle. In addition, the Thacher site is needed to better serve the Northeast Middle students with expanded field space and parking. Therefore, KCPS Administration has recommended the site be retained and Thacher demolished. At its February 25 meeting — 6:30pm at the Board of Education Building, 1211 McGee St. — the KCPS School Board will consider approval of a demolition contract for Thacher School. This is an public meeting.

Join North-East Public Library for its weekly story time and craft at 10:30 a.m. Parents and kids will enjoy stories geared toward toddlers and pre-schoolers. Get ready for songs, tongue twisters and dramatic play.

All you can eat shrimp dinner

The Hibernians are sponsoring an all you can eat shrimp dinner every Friday in Lent, beginning Friday. The dinner will take place form 5 – 7:30 p.m. at the Redemptorist Cafeteria, 3333 Broadway Blvd. Admission is $14 for adults and $6 for children.

Computer Class – Microsoft

Join North-East Public Library for class on the fundamentals of Microsoft Word which will focus on templates as well as the various menu options. Class begins at 10:30 a.m. at the library, 6000 Wilson Rd.

Master plan discussion

Join the Kansas City Public Schools master planning consultant MGT when they present its recommended options to help build a better KCPS. The next community meeting to analyze options specific to the schools in the North area of the KCPS district will be held from 6- 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 3, at the Northeast Middle School, 4904 Independence Ave.

Rep. Randy Dunn is hosting a town hall meeting from 1 – 3 p.m. Saturday, March, 14, at the Pioneer Community College Auditorium, 2700 E. 18th St. There will be an open discussion on crime prevention, the Affordable Care Act and Medicaid expansion. The Knights of Columbus 4613 are hosting a breakfast from 8:30 – 11:30 a.m. Sunday, March 8, in St. Joseph Hall at St. Anthony’s Church, 3208 Lexington Ave. Admission is $6.50 for adults.

The Knights of Columbus 4613 are hosting two fish fries next month. The first begins at 5 p.m. Friday, March 6, in St. Joseph Hall at St. Anthony’s Church, 3208 Lexington Ave. Admission is $8 and bingo will follow dinner from 7 – 9 p.m. The second event is scheduled for Friday, March 27.
