Jay’s Bigger Jigger will close for 15 days this month after a double shooting incident outside the bar.
The bar, located at 3019 E. 12th St. in Historic Northeast, was the site of a homicide Oct. 11. Stephanie N. Roberts, 21, was shot to death, and a second male shooting victim sustained serious injuries. The shooting took place outside Jay’s Bigger Jigger, though witnesses told police the violence started with a disturbance inside the bar.
As a result, the bar owner and Kansas City Regulated Industries officials agreed to a 30-day suspension of the tavern’s liquor license. The business will be closed during the suspension. Jay’s Bigger Jigger is serving the first 15 days of the suspension Nov. 1-15, and Regulated Industries will lift the additional 15 days as long as no future violations occur in the next year.
Additionally, as per usual in liquor license suspensions, the bar owner is to provide education, training and instruction to his employees about city ordinances.
