Community crime meetings
Community members are continuing to meet every Wednesday at noon at the North-East Public Library, 6000 Wilson Rd. The group brings neighborhood safety concerns together and forwards them to the police department. All are welcome.
TRCA crime commission meeting
Community members will meet to discuss community crime Wednesday at 2 p.m. at St. Paul’s School of Theology – Holter Hall, 5123 Truman Rd. All are welcome to attend.
Teen Hip Hop Academy
Every Wednesday beginning at 4:40 p.m., Jeremy and his crew from Hip Hop Academy host this free event at the North-East Public Library, teaching creativity to youth through the positive elements of Hip Hop culture. The Public Safety Network of the Northeast Health, Education, Labor and Public Safety organization will meet from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 27, at the North-East Public Library, 6000 Wilson Rd. No RSVP is required.
City Council and Mayoral Debate
All mayoral and district candidates have been invited to the City Council and Mayoral Debate from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 27, at the Pierson Auditorium, 5000 Holmes St., University Center. The event is open to the public with free parking. For more information visit www.umkc.edu/sga.
Preschool storytime
Bring your little one to this free event for ages 3 and up on Thursday at the Kansas City Museum starting at 10:30 a.m. Children will learn about hats, quilts, architecture, history and so much more.

Children’s storytime
All young children are welcome to visit the library at 10:30 a.m. each Friday for stories and a craft. Parent participation is welcome. The North-East Public Library is located at 6000 Wilson Rd.

24th Annual Disc Golf Ice Bowl
No wimps or whiners allowed! Over 400 crazy disc golfers will play disc golf in wintry weather to raise awareness for the hungry. Registration begins at 8:45 a.m. on both Saturday and Sunday at Rosedale Park in Kansas City, Kan., located at 40th and Mission Rd. Entry fee is $20, which inclues a commemorative disc, a mini disc, lunch and a $10 donation to the Bishop Sullivan Center. For more information visit www.bishopsullivan.org or www.kcfdc.org.
7th Annual Polar Plunge
The Polar Plunge will begin Saturday at noon at the Longview Lake beach, 11110 Raytown Rd. The event is open to anyone 10 years or older. Gates will open for day-of registration at 9 a.m. Each participant must raise a minimum of $75 to participate. The Polar Plunge will benefit the KC area athletes of Special Olympics. First Sunday at Kansas City Museum
The next First Sunday Fun Day event will be Feb. 6 from noon to 4 p.m. The Gilded Age, which spanned from 1870 to 1900, was one of the most dynamic, contentious and volatile periods in American history, and will be the theme. Create artwork inspired by Gilded Age music, build a bridge similar to the Brooklyn Bridge, learn the secret messages in fans and watch a film in the StoryTarium.
EMPOWER kidney disease classes
