With an undefeated season, the Della Lamb Saints’ third grade football team is ready to take on teams from across the U.S. in the Battle in Rocky Top Youth Football Classic Nov. 18-20.

But, they need a little help from the community.

Battle in Rocky Top, a national tournament in Knoxville, Tenn., is expected to attract hundreds of teams and is open to youngsters up to 15 years of age.

The Della Lamb football team is seeking donations to cover the cost of transportation to Tennessee.

Ninety-percent of the 23-member team are on the honor roll, assistant football coach David Barnett said.

In addition to football fundamentals, the coaches encourage the third graders to show respect, do their best at school and finish their chores.

“We’re instilling values in the kids,” Barnett said. “We’re a very good team. We’re planning on and hoping to win (at the national tournament).”

Della Lamb’s current stats are 8-0 and last year, the team won the AYF MO-KAN Super Bowl.

In return for financial support, the team will recognize those who donate during Della Lamb’s annual banquet and will print donor names on the team banner, which will be displayed at various events.

Make checks payable to Della Lamb Saints Third Grade Football. Donations may be sent to Della Lamb Saints Third Grade Football, c/o Tony Woods (athletic director), 500 Woodland Ave., Kansas City, MO 64106.
