Wow! Let’s talk about some cutting-edge public web content. In the vein of keeping things transparent, Council dude Scott Wagner is pulling out all the stops in keeping his constituency up to speed via the Internet. Using various web tools and services, Wagner is breaking new ground for the stodgy City Council types through the use of Facebook, YouTube and Twitter. It’s all designed to keep his constituency in the know about city government. Kudos to the new guy for dragging City Hall into the 21st Century at long last!

Nice work if you can get it.

This news-pooch has long been critical of the city’s water department and last week gave us a little more reason to push strongly for a department-wide overhaul.

During the sweltering heat last week, we witnessed no less than six employees lounging comfortably in their trucks with the A/C cranked while one worker remained in the heat operating a backhoe.

We watched for roughly 20 minutes while the lounging city employees read magazines, told jokes and took catnaps all while one guy was outside in the heat.

Once again, six guys drawing union scale to take naps and cut up at taxpayer expense. Either privatize or gut the department from the bottom up. Somehow I don’t think sleeping on the job was part of the job description, much less the union contract.
