BREAKING— The East Patrol Division of Kansas City Police Department (KCPD), along with its Accident Investigation Section (AIS) responded to a vehicle collision at 4:12 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 26 at an intersection of Winner Road and Hardesty Avenue.
Upon preliminary investigation, it was discovered that a black BMW 535i was traveling at an accelerated speed on Hardesty Avenue and was involved in a single-car collision with a traffic median. Once entering the section of Winner Road and Hardesty, the BMW proceeded northbound on Hardesty within the lanes, which are southbound, according to a released from KCPD media unit.
The vehicle then collided with a traffic median and a metal traffic signal before moving northbound along Winner road. The automobile skidded up a hill and launched across a private driveway — crashing into its building before coming to a halt, according to KCPD media unit.
The BMW driver was pronounced deceased on the scene; The front seat passenger was transported to a local hospital with series injuries and is currently in stable condition.
This marks Kansas City’s 93rd fatality of 2024 in comparison to 2023, which experienced 100 vehicle-related fatalities at this time last year.
Victims and suspects are currently unknown at this time; This case remains under investigation by KCPD.
