Given the year we’ve had, this postcard seems fitting to close out 2020.
“If you don’t soon come to Kansas City, I’ll come after you with an axe.”
This novelty postcard, complete with the felt pennant emblazoned with Kansas City, was mailed on August 2nd, 1912 to Mrs. J.C. Kanturek who lived on Route 2 in Oak Grove, Mo.
Such novelty cards were popular during the golden age of picture postcards. The felt pennant could easily be interchanged for any city, making printing an easy and inexpensive task. The message on the back of the card reads,“Received your letter the other day. Will write in a day or two. Just got back from town. Got me a wash silk waist. Dora says she is going to tell you not to come by until her company goes home. She will get off too. Lavona.”
