To the Editor:
A few weeks ago, my husband opened a traffic ticket in our mail, and as he was trying to figure out when he ran the red light, I spoke up, “it’s mine.” I admit it. I ran a red light. I saw the flash of light behind me that confirmed it. The camera at I-435 and Winner Road was the witness to my crime.
What should get your attention, fellow Historic Northeast residents, is this: the notice of violation came from Phoenix, and my payment goes to Cincinnati. With all due respect to our elected officials and those who think it necessary to install cameras at intersections, I am at a loss as to why we would outsource these jobs. If Missouri doesn’t have a “Kansas City, Mo., Photo Enforcement Program,” as does Phoenix or a “City of Kansas City Photo Enforcement Division,” as does Cincinnati, then why do we have cameras at intersections catching lawbreakers instead of our local officers?
I am paying my $100 fine today. I wish every penny of it stayed here in Missouri.
