Meet with KCPD Chief Darryl Forte
If you would like to discuss concerns with recent crime trends in the Historic Northeast, then plan to attend this meeting hosted by the Mattie Rhodes Center. The meeting takes place at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 13, at the Mattie Rhodes Center, 148 N. Topping Ave. All residents of Historic Northeast are invited.

Wednesday, October 14

Walk with ease club
At 9 a.m. at the North-East Library, this six-week course will teach participants how to walk and stretch safely, increase flexibility, and improve balance. Weekly incentives will be given to participants. Learn how walking can improve your fitness and help manage your arthritis pain.

Tatsuya Nakatani concert and Aurograph concert
Tatsuya Nakatani and Aurograph collaborate to present an evening of improvisational and innovative compositions at the Kansas City Museum. Nakatani is a world renowned acoustic sound artist and percussionist, originally from Osaka Japan. Aurograph is a creative and conceptual musical group that includes J. Ashley Miller, Shawn E. Hansen, and Mark L. Southerland. Nakatani and Aurograph have been working together for three years and will release an album this fall. Performance starts at 7 p.m., followed by a dessert reception. My Kansas City: the Heritage & Legacy of the Historic Northeast
This exhibition explores the important history of Kansas City’s Historic Northeast neighborhoods and its long-awaited renaissance. As one of Kansas City’s oldest areas, the Historic Northeast’s past includes legendary, lively stories and shared memories of magnates, immigrants, mansions, ethnic businesses, and more. From culturally diverse neighborhoods, active residents, and visionary leaders to iconic monuments and beautiful natural resources, the Historic Northeast has deep historical significance for Kansas City—and the resilience and creativity of its neighborhoods is a beacon for the future. The exhibition is located in the Museum’s Carriage House and is on display through Jan. 16, 2016. Exhibition Tours are free and self-guided from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. Wednesday-Saturday.

Join North-East Public Library at 9:30 a.m. for physical fitness. No matter what your limitations, maybe you can still reap the physical, mental and emotional benefits of exercise. This class is designed to give you a total body workout. Cardio, strength and flexibility exercises are all performed from a seated position.

Kansas City Chiefs Football Party with KC Wolf

Join the Kansas City Library at its Plaza Branch at 6:30 to hang-out with Kansas City Chief mascot KC Wolf in celebration of the release of the new picture book Kansas City Chiefs ABCs and 1-2-3s, illustrated by Kansan Rob Peters. Listen to football stories, play games, and have your picture taken with the Wolf. Appropriate for all ages.

Story Time and Craft
Join North-East Public Library for its weekly story time and craft at 10:30 a.m. Parents and kids will enjoy stories geared toward toddlers and pre-schoolers.  Get ready for songs, tongue twisters and dramatic play.

Computer Class
Sign up for a free e-mail account and follow along with this tutorial that teaches the ins and outs of sending and receiving email, as well as how to organize your messages. Class begins at 10:30 a.m. at the North-East Public Library, 6000 Wilson Rd.

Communiversity Spanish Class
Join the North-East Public Library at 10 a.m. to learn how to speak conversational Spanish.

Fall Homes Tour
The Northeast Kansas City Historical Society’s fourth annual Fall Homes Tour will be held from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 17. The first floors of classic turn-of-the-century homes will be featured on this year’s tour, including the Kansas City Museum. The sales tent for advanced ticket pick-up and day-of ticket sales will be set-up on the lawn across the street facing the Kansas City Museum. CID Sponsored 4-Corners event
Dress up that pooch and get those pumpkin carving tools ready because this Saturday, Oct. 17, the Independence Avenue CID is sponsoring its second 4-courners event, this time on the eastern end of the Avenue at Westlake Ace Hardware. The event runs from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m., in the parking lot of Westlake Hardware, 6201 Independence Ave. A doggie costume contest will be held with winners receiving prizes, as well as having their photo shared on the Avenue’s CID Facebook page. A pumpkin carving contest will also be held with pumpkins purchased at Westlake’s Pumpkin Garden. Winners will be announced at the conclusion of the event. Eleos Fall Festival
Eleos Coffee House is hosting its annual Fall Festival from 2-6 p.m. at 3401 Independence Ave. This festival is free to the public and will have games, apple cider, barbecue pulled pork dinner for a $1. Curated by Dr. Gene T. Chavez and presented by the Kansas City Museum in partnership with El Centro, Inc., Mexican American Fast Pitch Softball Leagues: Connecting Communities Across State Lines is an exhibition exploring the rich history and legacy of Mexican American fast pitch softball leagues in Missouri and Kansas. This exhibition features a documentary film based on oral histories of former players and items from personal collections including photographs, uniforms, league documents, trophies, and other historical materials. On view from 1 – 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 24.
