Bearly an afternoon together. Before Friday’s rain put an early end to the day’s festivities, families were able to celebrate National Teddy Bear Picnic Day with a party on the front lawn of the Kansas City Museum. Families packed picnics and grabbed your favorite teddy bears for music by Janie Next Door, games, and crafts at the museum. According to the Kansas City Parks and Recreation Department’s website, National Teddy Bear Picnic Day stems from the early 1900s when then-president Theodore Roosevelt gave the permission to use his nickname for the stuffed animal. And although Friday’s storm meant an early end, families still had fun. Jan Powell and Lucia Fletcher said they were having a great time before the rain.
