For some Kansas City residents, Christmas will come a little earlier.

For 28 years, Christmas in October has rehabilitated more than 7,500 homes in the Kansas City metro area. Work has ranged from painting to roof repair to replacing a faulty furnace. Handiwork varies with each home and focuses on “warmth, safety and dignity.”

Christmas in October is already accepting applications and area residents are encouraged to turn in applications as soon as possible.

To qualify, a resident must own his or her own home and lack the financial resources to complete home repairs.

In addition, the resident must meet one of the following criteria: be age 62 or older, have a physical disability, be a veteran or have a veteran residing in the home.
