A Kansas City man has now been charged in an assault case that occurred July 1 at 4512 E. 20th St.

Joel M. Mejia, 21, has been charged with first degree assault and armed criminal action. According to court records, the victim was on his front porch when Mejia walked through the front yard and pulled a handgun from his waistband. Mejia fired the gun twice, striking the victim in his leg. Mejia then fled on foot and witnesses corroborated the victim’s statement.

Kansas City Police Department located a gun in close proximity to Mejia during his apprehension.

Prosecutors have requested a $100,000 cash bond.
