Memorial Day weekend will be filled with events and below we’ve highlighted just a few in Kansas City. Have a safe and happy Memorial Day weekend!
Vintage Military Vehicle Display & Memorial Day Ceremony
National WWI Museum at Liberty Memorial, 100 W. 26th Street, Kansas City, Mo.
May 27-28: Vintage Military Vehicle Display, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the museum’s southwest lawn. Members of the Hell on Wheels Chapter will be available to answer questions. Cost is free.
May 28: Memorial Day Ceremony; Pre-ceremony music begins at 9:15 a.m. followed by a color guard parade at 9:30 a.m. Ceremony will begin at 10 a.m. on the south side of the museum. In addition, there will be special speakers and the American Legion Band will perform.
Celebration at Union Station
Union Station, 30 W. Pershing Rd., Kansas City, Mo.
May 27: Celebration at Union Station; A free patriotic outdoor concert, directed by Michael Stern of the Kansas City Symphony, will be held to celebrate Memorial Day. Doors open at 3 p.m. and entertainment begins at 4:30 p.m. with the United States Air Force Brass in Blue. Beginning at 7:30 p.m., the Kansas City Symphony will play instrumental patriotic songs. Finale begins at 9:15 p.m. with fireworks and a live cannon.
Elmwood Cemetery viewing & walking tour
Historic Elmwood Cemetery, 4900 East Truman Road Kansas City, Mo.
May 26-May 28: Elmwood Cemetery volunteers will assist visitors throughout the Memorial Day weekend from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day. Armour Memorial Chapel will be open for viewing and a self-guided walking tour brochure will be available. American flags will be available for a minimum charge. A copy of the Elmwood Cemetery: Stories of Kansas City will also be available for purchase.
