Kansas City, Mo. City Councilman Brandon Ellington will continue his One Love Community Engagement Series at Concourse Park, 200 Benton Blvd., this weekend along with the No More Excuses Coalition.
On Aug. 23 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. the third district at-large council member and coalition will host a community event with guest speakers and performances by residents of the Kansas City metro.
The No More Excuses Coalition focuses on crime. Their mission is to change the social contract on what is socially and culturally acceptable.
“We shall focus on organizing organically to reduce crime while working to reform police infrastructure and community relations,” the coalition’s mission said.
They also focus on stabilizing neighborhoods while promoting ownership of business and housing, while investing in aging infrastructure.
The ultimate goal of the One Love Community Engagement Series is to promote community self-determination while reducing crime and increasing viable opportunities and solutions to deal with crime, commerce, infrastructure, employment and youth.
Stand up comedian Kenny Howell will MC the event. If community members are interested in speaking or performing, they can contact the councilman’s office by emailing Brandon.Ellington@kcmo.org or calling (816) 513-6511.
The event will also include a voting registration booth.
Ellington and the coalition have held many of these events in neighborhoods throughout Kansas City this summer.
