KANSAS CITY, Missouri — Kenneth “K-Mart” Martin passed away Sunday, June 29, 2014, at Research Medical Center in Kansas City MO.

Kenneth Maurice Martin was born on Jan. 9, 1956, to Ulysees Quentin Martin and Canaria Maxine Graham in Kansas City, Mo. Kenneth was affectionately known by his siblings as “K-Mart” and “Special K.”

Memorial Services for Martin will be held 5 p.m. Monday, July 7, at the Palestine Missionary Baptist Church, 3619 E. 35th St.

Kenneth was an extremely warm, pleasant, and giving man who loved books, comic books, movies, and science fiction. This past winter, he retired from the North-East branch of the Kansas City Public Library after 30 years of service.

He leaves to cherish his memory: his mother, Canaria Martin of Kansas City, Mo.; brothers: Curtis (Carmen) Alatorre-Martin of Arlington Va., James (Edwina) Martin of Kansas City, Mo., Leonard (Maxine) Martin of Milwaukee, Nathan (partner: Gene) of Atlanta, Barbara (Charles) of Onalaska, Wis., and Eric Martin of Jefferson City, Mo.; aunt, Myra Chapple of Kansas City, Mo.; uncle Oscar Graham of Aurora, Colo.; grandchildren: Kendall, Kennedy, and Alexis; and nieces, nephews, relatives, friends and special family friend Barbara Flowers.

His father (Ulysees) preceded him in death.
