Kansas City Police will once again use Twitter to give the public a first-hand look at what happens during an officer’s typical shift.

KCPD will have a “tweet-along” from 8 p.m. to midnight today (Aug. 24) and feature the East Patrol Division. A member of the department’s Media Unit will ride along with East Patrol officers and tweet everything that happens. The public can follow along at twitter.com/kcpolice.

Chief Darryl Forté, who thought of the concept,  said he wanted to give the public a better idea of what officers face on a given shift.

“I think showing them first-hand what we do will help us build relationships with the community,” Forté said.
Any information that could endanger someone, such as victims’ names or exact addresses, will not be tweeted.

KCPD has done tweet-alongs in April and June and plans to continue offering tweet-alongs every other month. Kansas City Police are the fifth-most followed major city police department in the United States on Twitter, according to the International Association of Chiefs of Police Center for Social Media.
