Correction: Officers originally told the Northeast News the victim was a transgender male; however, that information has been corrected to reflect the correct identity of the victim: transgender woman.

KANSAS CITY – Kansas City Police are on scene at the southern intersection of Independence Avenue and Spruce on a homicide investigation.

According to KCPD, a dead body was found this morning on the 600 block of Spruce on the front steps near a boarded up abandoned house.

The victim was a black transgender woman, unknown age. There is no suspect info at the time.

Neighbors reported hearing possible verbal disturbance followed by gunshots around 2:30 or 3:00 this morning.
