A new preparatory academy is expecting to open its doors to 100 fifth-grade girls in the Northeast area by the fall of 2019.

Kansas City Girls Preparatory Academy (KCGPA) is an affiliate school with the Young Women’s Leadership Network (YWLN). This will be the second affiliate school with YWLN that is located in Missouri; the other being Hawthorne Leadership School for Girls.

The team wants to learn from other schools in the area and model their best practices, while also observing pitfalls to avoid. They have visited several schools in the area, including University Academy and Ewing Marion Kauffman School, and are planning to visit more local and YWLN-affiliated schools in the future.

“We will take some of the best practices and traditions from what the network schools have demonstrated, but we will personalize it for our community,” says Christine Kemper, Board Chair for KCGPA. “We get the advantage of access to all of their wealth of information and they will share resources and information with us, but we can adapt the curriculum and the programing.”

They are hoping to bring a good school into the community to help educate girls in the area. Though they have already held outreach events, they expect to continue to do so over the next year to ensure that the community will back the project.

The school is to be located in the Northeast area, and though they do not yet have a location, administrators are currently scouting several places for the school.

They do not have any currents plans to create a Kansas City Boys Prep Academy, but are willing to support any other organization that wants to undertake such an effort.
