James Donald “Don” Holst Sr., 68, of Independence, died Friday, Jan. 15, 2010. Services were Jan. 23.

Don was born May 1, 1941, in Glasgow, Mo., the son of Johnnie and Ruth Holst. After high school he spent a brief time in the Air Force, then married Rosemay Riber Holst. Don became an electrician, worked as an aviation mechanic at KCI airport for several years and as a machine maintenance operator at International paper.

He is survived by his wife, Rosemary Holst, of the home; daughters, Mary R. Holst, Lawren Holst and Donna Short (Fred), all of Independence; son, Jimmy Don (Louann), Santa Monica, Calif.; two grandsons; four granddaughters; one great-granddaughter; two brothers and six sisters.
