Health. On April 5, area residents took advantage of free health screenings and information at the North-East Library. The event, hosted by Truman Medical Center, offered free cholesterol, body mass index (BMI) glucose checks, as well as provided informational pamphlets and free vision exam vouchers. Raquel Garcia, registered nurse with Truman Medical Centers, said the medical center is trying to decrease emergency room visits because people in the Northeast use the ER when they should be using a primary care physician. “People don’t know this stuff is offered for free,” Garcia said. Branch manager Claudia Visnich said the library is always looking for more, non-traditional events to host.”Libraries aren’t traditional anymore,” Visnich said.
