ESL Conversation Group
The Central Branch of the Kansas City Public Library will host an ESL Conversation Group on Wednesday, October 10, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. In class you will learn basic English skills: grammar, listening, speaking, pronunciation, reading, and conversation. Mattie Rhodes Center health clinic
The Northeast location of the Mattie Rhodes Center (148 N. Topping) opens its evening health clinic, named La Clinica, every Thursday evening from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. No appointments needed, but care is provided on a first-come, first-served basis.

 

Drop-in tech coach
The North-East branch of the Kansas City Public Library will bring in a tech coach to assist the public on Thursday, October 18, from 4 p.m. until 5:30 p.m. Get answers to questions about Microsoft Word and Excel; the internet; email, formatting a resume and online applications; syncing your smart phone, and so much more.

 

66th Annual Blue Valley Kiwanis Club Chili Day
On Thursday, November 15, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., visit the Blue Valley Salvation Army Building at 6618 Truman Rd, where $7 will get you All You Can Eat Chili, a drink, and dessert.

Chair Fitness
The North-East Public Library Branch (6000 Wilson Rd.) will host a chair fitness class on Friday, October 19, beginning at 9:30 a.m. No matter what your limitations, you can still reap the physical, mental and emotional benefits of exercise. This class is designed to offer a total body workout. Cardio, stength and flexibility exercises are all performed from a seated position.

 

International Marketplace Holiday Bazaar
Join El Bazar de Dulce Boutique and the Northeast Kansas City Chamber of Commerce to celebrate the “International Marketplace Holiday Bazaar” at The Egg Business Incubator located at 2659 Independence Blvd. Shop and support local businesses, take photos with Santa from 10 AM to 12 PM and enjoy all of the holiday festivities. There will be jewelry, fashion, food, gifts, toys, accessories, family fun, and more! Event is November 16-18, Friday hours from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., Saturday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sunday from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Story time at Central Library
Come out to the Central Branch of the Kansas City Public Library on Tuesday, October 28, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. for story time. Join the library every Tuesday for stories, songs, and plenty of time for play. The library encourages patrons to talk, sing, read, write and play every day, but Tuesdays are special because parking is free!

Thanksgiving at Calvary Temple
On Tuesday, November 20 from 6 to 8 p.m. Calvary Temple at 5607 St. John will host an all-ages community Thanksgiving dinner. There will also be a coat and blanket give-away through Project Warmth.

KC Streetcar Holiday Jam
Live music on the KC Streetcar in partnership with 90.9 The Bridge starts November 24 with Carolers of Note from 12 to 2 p.m., continues November 30 with AJ Young from 5 to 7 p.m. and into December as part of Visit KC’s Downtown Dazzle. Visit Union Station and Crown Center to see the Christmas decor and take a festive ride on the free streetcar. Find more info at downtowndazzle.com.

 

Pendleton Heights Holiday Homes Tour
Visit the Holiday Homes Tour and Artist Market on Saturday, December 1 from 12 to 5 p.m. The tour showcases 6 Victorian homes next to urban-style newer homes around the Community Orchard at Lexington and Montgall. Food trucks will gather around the orchard and an artist market will be at 555 Olive from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tickets are $12 in advance or $15 at the door and benefit Pendleton Heights Neighborhood Association.

 

Christmas in the Park
Longview Lake’s annual light display begins Wednesday, November 21 and runs until Saturday, December 31. On the 21st, gates open at 5 and the Holiday Stage Show starts at 6, with the Christmas in the Sky fireworks show at 7:30 at Longview Lake Beach (11101 Raytown Road). The drive-through display features thousands of light-up characters and drivers can tune into 99.7 The Point to synchronize their drive to holiday music .
