Mattie Rhodes Center health clinic
The Northeast location of the Mattie Rhodes Center (148 N. Topping) opens its evening health clinic, named La Clinica, every Thursday evening from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. No appointments needed, but care is provided on a first-come, first-served basis.

 

Friday, June 8

Chair Fitness
The North-East Public Library Branch (6000 Wilson Rd.) will host a chair fitness class on Friday, June 1, beginning at 9:30 a.m. No matter what your limitations, you can still reap the physical, mental and emotional benefits of exercise. This class is designed to offer a total body workout. Cardio, strength and flexibility exercises are all performed from a seated position.

Pre-School Storytime
The North-East Public Library Branch (6000 Wilson Rd.) will host pre-school story time on Friday, June 8, from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. Bring your little ones to sit around the campfire to read stories and sing songs.

Spanish Citizens Academy
The Kansas City Police Department (KCPD) will host a Spanish Citizens Academy on June 9, June 16 and June 23 at St. Anthony’s Parish (309 Benton Blvd, KCMO), from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. each day. Partners in the event will include the Mexican Consulate, Guadalupe Centers, Kansas City Public Schools, Mattie Rhodes Center, Northeast Alliance Together (NEAT), and many more.

Tour the historic Central Library
The Central Branch of the Kansas City Public Library invites the public to a guided, beyond-the-bookshelves tour of the Central Library’s unique spaces and rich history on Saturday, June 9, from 11 a.m. until 12 p.m. Interested in taking a tour of the Central Library? Craft N’ Creations
Join the North-East Branch of the Kansas City Public Library on Saturday, June 9 from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. for Craft N’ Creations, the monthly adult craft session held on the second Saturday of each month. This program is appropriate for ages 18+. All supplies are provided by the library. The craft of choice on June 9 is Decoupage wine bottles.

KCPD East Patrol’s Youth Academy
KCPD East Patrol’s Youth Academy will run from Monday, June 11 until Friday, June 15, from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. daily. The academy is for area youths between the ages of 11 and 15. Call (816) 234-5404 to enroll.

Kansas City Jazz Orchestra listening party
The Central branch of the Kansas City Public Library invites the community to a listening session for the Kansas City Jazz Orchestra on Monday, June 11, from 6:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. The event will be held in Kirk Hall, where Clint Ashlock, Artistic Director of the Kansas City Jazz Orchestra, will host a listening party for a formative jazz album. Independence Plaza Council will host its monthly meeting on Tuesday, June 12, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Woodland Elementary School, 711 Woodland Ave., KCMO.

Story time at Central Library
Come out to the Central Branch of the Kansas City Public Library on Tuesday, June 12 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. for story time. Join the library every Tuesday for stories, songs, and plenty of time for play. The library encourages patrons to talk, sing, read, write and play every day, but Tuesdays are special because parking is free!

2018 National Flag Day and flag retirement
In observance of Flag Day on June 14, Kansas City residents are invited to a flag retirement ceremony at the Korean War Veterans Memorial in Washington Square Park. Patriotic music will begin at 9:30 a.m., with the retirement ceremony starting at 10 a.m. Bring your tired, your old, your tattered and faded flags to be officially retired. Captain Jamie A. Fraser-Loria of the United States Navy will serve as the guest speaker at the event.

Prospect Plaza Master Plan meeting
A meeting about the future of Prospect Plaza Park (12th and Prospect) will be held on Thursday, June 14, from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Gregg/Klice Community Center (1600 John Buck O’Neil Way). At the public meeting, attendees will review the concepts for the Prospect Plaza Park master plan and offer feedback about the proposed improvements.

Indian Mound Neighborhood Meeting
The Indian Mound Neighborhood Association will host its next monthly meeting on Monday, June 18 at 6:30 p.m. at the Northeast Public Library (6000 Wilson Ave.)
